Bristol Web Developer Conference
WDC took place on October 9th in Watershed, Bristol Harbourside. Contrary to our expectations, not everything was about programming, but we were also taught different life lessons. The conference has indeed started with "There & Back Again", a talk about CSS, tricks we can apply and certain rules one should keep in mind when they're trying to display text in digital format. It was though followed by Melinda Seckington's "The Marvel Guide to Agile", a talk on a completly opposite topic, which showed us that different people have different needs, but that we are all alike by trying to face our fears and overcome ourselves.

The next one to speak up was George Crawford, who gave us some essential tipps for CSS while explaining the problems he and his team had to face while working on two similar projects, such as pagination, line character number, font size and line height.

Adam Onishi followed and gave an inspirational talk about superheroes and teamwork, emphasizing the fact that a good team has both experienced and inexperienced, old and young members.

"Riding the Startup Roller Coaster", by Kyle Gawley presented the difficulties one has to face in order to start their own business. He talked from his own experience and explained that he wanted to give up on his dream several times but somehow managed not to.

"Proffesional Progression". It sounds like a serious topic with a strict ideas and it probably would've been but for Paul Davis. One of the first things he said was that he had no idea where that talk would lead to. He talked about his personal ambitions and problems, mistakes he's made and gave us a piece of advice: to believe in ourselves and do what we want.

Louise Howells asked us "Why so serious?" and presented the 24 hour competition that took place at the firm she works for, Zengenti, a couple of months ago, a competition that let the employees create something for themselves, non work related, giving each other awards at the end.
